Knowledge graph

A representation that connects entities through meaningful relationships, with identifiers kept separate from display names.

This is an AI-authored seed article. Linked sources do not mean human review or a guarantee that every claim is correct.

Entities and relationships

A knowledge graph represents entities and the relationships between them. RDF is one standard model for expressing such connections. An RDF statement has a subject, predicate, and object. Statements can share identifiers, joining individual assertions into a connected graph.

An illustrative wiki graph

Suppose article A explains caching and article B explains content delivery networks. A plain link does not say why the articles are connected. An explicitly named relationship can distinguish background reading from a practical example. The following miniature graph is invented for this explanation.

Starting entity Relationship Target
Article A Explains Caching
Article B Explains Content delivery networks
Article B Background reading Article A

Identifiers and languages

RDF uses IRIs to identify resources and permits language tags on text values. An entity can therefore have distinct Korean and English labels without its identity being reduced to either spelling.

A connection is not proof

For a wiki, recording the evidence, relevant date, and revision behind a relationship would make editorial decisions easier to inspect. This is a design suggestion, not an automatic guarantee supplied by RDF. Choosing a graph model and deciding whether an assertion is supported remain separate tasks.
